ASIC chip market to outperform AI chip in South Korea

The ASIC chip CAGR market sales to post 44% over FY23-FY27 globally.

An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chip market is seen to outpace the AI chip market due to former's custom-design nature, CGS-CIMB, said in its semiconductor brokerage report.

In the report, CGS-CIMB said the ASIC chip market is more efficient and faster in processing capabilities.

“As chip costs and operating time are major limiting factors for AI models, computational efficiency and power consumption become more critical for AI semiconductors,” CGS-CIMB said.

“We believe the foundry sector is a key beneficiary of the growth in ASIC chips,” the brokerage firm also said.

CGS-CIMB also said AI models that continue to grow in size and complexity, computing power requirements will surge.

It also highlights supply chains in Korea for foundry, leading-edge nodes and HBM is a key beneficiary of rising AI adoption.

Its top three picks for semiconductor stocks are SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Leeno.
